Digital Connectivity Indicators Maps, LGA, SA2, SUAs

Indicator scores (0% to 100%) represent the level of digital connectivity in an area for each given technology type. Indicators depict the share of land area, or the share of premises, in a Local Government Area (LGA), Statistical Area Level 2 (SA2) or Significant Urban Area (SUA) where specific technology types are available.

Technology types include mobile coverage – 4 th Generation (4G) and 5 th Generation (5G) – and NBN technologies – fixed line, fixed wireless and satellite. A separate indicator presents the share of premises covered by services provided by non-NBN Statutory Infrastructure Providers (SIPs).

Premises have been estimated from a combination of NBN Co‑sourced premises locations and Geocoded National Address File (GNAF) locations. Premises have been calculated as accurately as possible with the datasets available to provide digital connectivity indicators for a given area, covering both business and residential premises that are served by either NBN Co or by non-NBN SIPs. Areas with 30 premises or fewer have been suppressed.

Mobile coverage information has been obtained from the ACCC 2024 Mobile Coverage Layers and unpublished ACCC 2025 Mobile Coverage Layers. The ACCC collects this data under its ‘Audit of Telecommunications Infrastructure Assets Record Keeping Rules’ and refers to the best outdoor coverage possible without external antennas as at 31 January 2024 for Optus and as at 31 January 2025 for Telstra and TPG. Data on NBN technologies is from NBN Co at June 2025.

Purpose For Collection Indicator scores (0% to 100%) represent the level of digital connectivity in an area for each given technology type. Indicators depict the share of land area, or the share of premises, in a Local Government Area (LGA), Statistical Area Level 2 (SA2) or Significant Urban Area (SUA) where specific technology types are available. This information can be used to show the availability/coverage of selected forms of digital connectivity at the statistical geography. Indicators do not account for variations in digital connectivity within each area, or the performance of the technology types. Technology types include mobile coverage – 4 th Generation (4G) and 5 th Generation (5G) – and NBN technologies – fixed line, fixed wireless and satellite. A separate indicator presents the share of premises covered by services provided by non-NBN Statutory Infrastructure Providers (SIPs).
