Monthly state to state train movement statistics
The URL above will enable download of the full dataset as a csv file.
Please note: Only a sample of the dataset (1000 records) is available below for previewing purposes or access via web API.
About the data:
- Origin-destination and commodity fields include subtotals denominated as "-all-"
- Note: Individual line items may not add up to the subtotals because records with less than 10 train counts are removed.
- Tonnage fields have been replaced with 'NA' for routes with 2 or less train operators.
Fields in the data include:
- year and month of the first departure date for the train service
- from_name (origin) and to_name (destination) for state to state routes
- commodity_name: type of train characterised by the goods they carry
- train_count: number of train services for each route in a month
- total_tonnage: sum of gross mass for each route in a month
- total_tonnage_km: sum of gross mass multiplied by distance travelled
